Three people are arrested for labeling and applying false traceability of Iberian meat products to hams and shoulders that were not.

Agents of the Nature Protection Service of the Civil Guard (Seprona) of the Civil Guard of Madrid, have arrested in the operation ‘Costmapa’ to three people and investigated five more for crimes related to public health related to the market and consumers, document falsification, fraud and crime against industrial property, having facilitated the introduction to the market of hams and shoulders pretending they were Iberian.

The beginning of the investigation dates back to last October, when at the facilities of a merchant located in Getafe several hams and shoulders were detected and immobilized carrying Iberian vitolas from the province of Huelva with irregularities in the seals and labels.

The progress of the investigation allowed to know that all of them came from the same commercial firm and that they were also being distributed in other retail facilities located in Las Rozas and Seville, the Madrid Command reported this Thursday in a press release.

For this reason, the agents made several inspections, both in these facilities where the products were being marketed and in the premises of the company that supplied them, discovering the agents a complex plot made up of several mercantile that placed Iberian seals on pieces that were not, issued false audits in the quality certificates and introduced them to the final consumer market.

As a result of all the inspections that have been carried out, they have been intervened and made available to the competent judicial authority a total of 405 shoulders and 659 hams worth 180,000 euros with irregularities in the seals.

Products considered unfit for consumptionSince it is not possible to clearly prove the origin or provenance of the same products, food safety cannot be ensured.

For all this, the civil guards have proceeded to arrest three people in Huelva related to the company that introduced them to the consumer market, as well as the investigation of another five people who performed auditing and administration functions in companies dedicated to the certification and quality of the products.

For these reasons they are charged crimes against public health related to the market and consumers, document falsification, fraud and crime against industrial property.

In order to know the origin and traceability of the intervened products, the collaboration and support of both the Ministry of Health of the Community of Madrid and that of Agriculture, in addition to that of their counterparts from the Junta de Andalucía, has been essential.
