Children and youth in Mexico City advocate a recycling culture

The 108,561 children and young people in 340 schools in Mexico City were recognized for collecting packaging waste to promote recycling and a culture of care for the environment.

ECOCE AC, an environmental civil association created and sponsored by the food and beverage industryThe company ended the 2015-2016 school year cycle of its ECO-RETO program in Mexico City, where more than 221 tons of PET, more than 8 tons of HDPE (high-density polyethylene) and more than 1 ton of aluminum were collected.

ECO-RETO is a voluntary and free program that can establish new habits in waste management.Students participate in the collection of PET, HDPE and aluminum packaging waste generated at home or schoolAnd at the end of the school year, the school exchanged them for electronic cards in the business chain to improve the school’s infrastructure.

In ECO-RETO, public and private elementary and secondary schools participate in 65 major urban areas of the country, mainly Mexico City.

ECOCE and its partners recognized the school in Mexico City, which excels in collecting garbage by volume and per capita. Special accreditation in WTC.

ECO-RETO has successfully recycled more than 1.23 billion containers. It’s like we have revolved the earth 37 times around the earth one by one.

ECO-RETO has existed for 12 years, which means that there have been two generations of children and young people recycling packaging. By involving more than 1.5 million Mexican families, this represents a population of more than 10 million people who collect and recycle packaging, creating a multiplier effect.
